Cystic Fibrosis Foundation | September Donation

This month's Little Crowns & Capes donation for LCC Gives Back goes to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The mission of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is to cure cystic fibrosis and to provide all people with CF the opportunity to lead long, fulfilling lives by funding research and drug development, partnering with the CF community, and advancing high-quality, specialized care.

What is Cystic Fibrosis?

Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disorder that affects the lungs, pancreas, and other organs. Close to 40,000 people in the U.S. have cystic fibrosis, a rare genetic disease. The majority of people with CF are diagnosed by age 2 thanks to newborn screening tests.  Tremendous advancements in specialized CF care have added years and improved the quality of the lives of people with cystic fibrosis. During the 1950s, a child with CF rarely lived long enough to attend elementary school. Today, many people with CF achieving their dreams of attending college, pursuing careers, getting married, and having kids.

One of our Little Crowns & Capes local parents', Maci & Logan, are raising money to cure cystic fibrosis through their fundraiser 'Tee it up for G'. Their daughter Georgia was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis as a baby.

Maci states in her blog,  "Even though your dad and I wish with all of our might that we could take these challenges away from you - we have never and will never shy away from fighting alongside you. You are never alone. For a life encompassed with all of these decisions, treatments, medications, etc. is a life worth living if its a life with you in it. We believe you are a movement for change. We believe that you will see a cure in your lifetime. We believe that you will live a long and happy life. We believe that we will do our very best to ensure you a long list of wonderful memories where CF is not at the forefront. We believe that who you are will always outshine what you face. You are whole."
